York AREA Comments on Labor Resolution at Indian Point
New York, NY/September 30, 2004 —
Jerry Kremer, chairman to the advisory board for the New York
Affordable Reliable Electricity Alliance (New York AREA) today
issued the following statement on a five-year contract between
security officers at the Indian Point Energy Center, represented
by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local No. 456,
and the plants’ owner, Entergy Nuclear Northeast.
“The five year contract between the security officers
and the company is both welcome and expected good news. Both
parties have carefully worked together to make sure that Indian
Point’s security is of the highest quality, and indeed
second to none, when it comes to industrial facilities in
America.
“The downstate region needs Indian Point’s power
to thrive and grow. The continuing spirit of cooperation,
teamwork, and healthy labor relations between the company
and the security officers is good news for businesses and
homeowners in downstate New York,” said Kremer.
Founded in November 2003, New York AREA (www.area-alliance.org)
is comprised of more than 45 business, labor, and community
groups, as well as individual experts in energy and related
fields. New York AREA’s mission is to educate policy
makers, the media, businesses, and the general public about
why electricity is imperative for economic growth as well
as the optimal solutions to preserve and expand New York’s
electricity network.
