About Us

The Empire State faces serious and immediate electricity challenges.  To remain economically competitive and continue to be the global capital of business, New York needs significant energy production and transmission system upgrades.

Shortly after the 2003 blackout, the New York Affordable Reliable Electricity Alliance – New York AREA – was formed to address these daunting challenges.
